Daniel Dae Kim – Biography

Daniel was born in Pusan, Korea and emigrated to the USA with his family when he was two years old where he was raised in Easton, Pennyslvania. Despite moving to the USA, Daniel’s parents ensured that he stayed familiar with his roots and he is fluent in both his native Korean and his adopted English. Daniel attended Freedom High School, Bethlehem, Pennyslvania. Here he played sports, edited the school newspaper and was student government president.

On leaving school, he attended Bryn Mawr College where he discovered acting and, against his parents advice and wishes, changed his major from Finance and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Thetre and Political Science. He then spent some time studying at the National Theatre Institute at the Eugebe O’Neil Theatre Centre in Connecticut.

In New York he co-wrote and performed in comedies as part of an improv group. In 1993 he attended NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and graduated in 1996 with a Masters in Acting. He moved to Los Angeles in 1997 and has since appeared in such prestigious series as ER, 24 and of course, Angel.  After leaving Angel, Daniel joined the cast of the hugely popular TV series Lost where he put his bi-lingual skills to good used playing the non-English speaking Jin Kwon. He can currently be seen in the CBS re-make of Hawaii Five-0.
